How can I convert a YouTube video to Instagram Reels?
The key difference between YouTube and Instagram Reels is that YouTube video is primarily landscape (16:9), whereas Instagram Reels video is portrait (9:16). So, to convert a video from YouTube to work well on Reels you need to trim the video to change the aspect ratio.
Note that the Reels video format (9:16), is different to the Instagram feed format, which is square (1:1). Don’t worry, with our system you can create both!
Many video converters or trimmers will simply isolate the center of the landscape video, which results in the subject being out of frame or action being missed. To convert from YouTube to Reels successfully, your conversion tool needs to reframe videos appropriately and follow the action. Is it difficult to convert landscape videos to portrait videos for Reels?
Converting videos requires a lot of computational power, so if you are converting landscape (horizontal) video to portrait (vertical) for Reels, TikTok, Snapchat or another social network, your phone might struggle. This is especially true if the video is longer than 60 seconds, or if the video is in a high resolution such as 4k UHD.
It can also be a difficult process to automate. In landscape videos, subjects move around the screen and are often framed on the left or right. If your Reels video converter can’t recognise the subject of the video, or doesn’t let you reframe the action shot-by-shot, you might end up with a portrait video that misses the action!
