Facial Expression Filters (add-on)
What are facial expression filters?
Facial expression filters let you search for clips based on visible facial expressions (not scene moods) that reflect emotions like:
- Happiness
- Sadness
- Fear
- Anger
- Disgust
- Contempt
- Surprise
- Confusion
These filters help you surface emotionally intense or expressive moments in video content with precision.
How do I apply a facial expression filter in a visual search?
Here’s a step-by-step example:
- Go to the Search section (magnifier icon).
- Set Search Type to Visual Search.
- Select content folders (e.g., unscripted shows).
- Set number of clips (e.g., 10) and clip length (e.g., 20 seconds).
- Go to the Filters tab, choose an Emotion (e.g., Fear) and click Save.
- Enter a query (e.g., “women”) and run the search.
What kind of results will I get?
If you selected “Fear” and searched for “women”, you’ll receive clips where women are visibly expressing fear — for example:
- Raised eyebrows
- Wide eyes
- Distressed or tense facial expressions
- Emotional arguments or conflict scenes
How does the system detect emotions?
The filters analyze facial expressions, not internal emotional states or scene moods. For example:
| Emotion | Detected as… |
|---|---|
| Fear | Wide eyes, tense face, distressed look |
| Anger | Yelling, scowling, clenched jaw |
| Happiness | Smiling, laughing |
| Disgust | Grimacing, wrinkled nose |
The AI doesn’t read minds — it identifies visible emotions based on what’s shown on camera.
Can I use multiple emotional filters at once?
Currently, you can apply one facial expression filter per search. To explore different emotions, simply rerun the search with a different filter.
